Unhappy Gear Install Questions

im looking into getting a set of 3:73 or 4:10 gears,

the guy i was talking to said to ask yall if i need to replace the carrier? the carrier is the 7.5" thing i think?

he says i need the install kit with the little shims so you can make the gears fit together perfect. can someone just tell me how to do the whole process and everything i will need? i would greatly appreciate it.
thanks

Re: Gear Install Questions

Go buy the richmond install video from summit and watch it like 20 times. Me telling you how its done step by step would be dangerous cause its a very precise thing and you really need to see it being done to get it.

Re: Gear Install Questions

well, im not actually doing it, its an old friend of mine whose been doing it since the 1960's here and there. i think he was a little confused on something about the rear end, can you tell me if its posi or a one wheeler or limited slip or whatever because i told him i didn't know and he said it was probably a one wheeler so we would have to replace the carrier or something.

Re: Gear Install Questions

You have a posi 3 series Differential in there with 3.42 gears. You don't need to change the unit unless there is damage.

you have the weak 7.5 inch ring gear 10 bolt. to have the 8.5 you either need to have a truck, grand national, or older A body/ big body GM.

How do u know he has the 3.42's? i was gonna ask him what he had then i was like "did i miss something?" Any way as long as u have 3.23's (rpo code GU5) or numericaly higher like 3.42's (rpo code GU6) then yea u have the 3 series. When i got my gears i just bought the whole kit from jegs came with install kit and gears and all oils, alot easier gettin all of ur stuff at once.

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...87&prmenbr=361

thats what i bought.

Re: Gear Install Questions

All 94-97 Manual LT1 F-body's came with 3.42's and 93 came with 3.23's. There was no option like a auto. Thats what they got.

Re: Gear Install Questions

Well since he has a manual theres is only one thing to say 4.10's!!!!!! U got 2 overdrives man. With 4.10's in 6th gear u should be reving what an A4 with 2.73's should.

Well glad to know we have a mod who takes the time to invade our personal information it shows u care. LOL just kidding man, u know ur still my whore bag.
