93 Probe GT Problem

I bought this car, and I was only able to drive it in this girls driveway because it wasnt inspected, so when I bought it and got it on the road, it has some problem with it. It seems to idle really low and want to shut off. Going down the road it will start to loose power and backfire and really start to act up, then it will run fine for a mile, then do the same thing... it really starts acting up whenever i come to a stop somewhere, then it dont wanna go again, but the backfiring, and "loss of power" is awful. I dont know much about cars, so if you guys have any suggestions, please give in full detail how to perform the check or check a part or change it or whatever!

I would check your air filter, spark plugs, plug wires, distributer (if you have one). Are you getting a check engine light? Another super good resource for probes is www.probetalk.com, they have a lot of info on diagnosing problems with our cars. Lot's of help too. Good luck!
