Fuel pump and cooling fan run with key off

I need help..my 97 escort cooling fan and fuel pump come on when the ignition key is turned off. If you turn the key on, they shut off and everything seems to be normal. Sometimes when you turn the car off, it takes a few minutes before they kick on. This happens even when the car has not been drivin. If I pull the "inj" fuse in the engine, they both cut off, and if i only pull the fan fuse, only the fan cuts off....help

I have looked at some wiring diagrams to see if there was a 'common' area where you could have a short between the cooling fans and the fuel pump wiring. Both get their power through the same fusible link from the starter relay which is controlled by the ignition switch. The ignition switch could be bad between the 'off' and 'run position'.

I will look into that....I took car to the dealer, and they suggested the relay module. Other than that, they didn't know. Is there a difference in the series type of a ccrm (constant control relay module)?

Which relay...cooling fan/s or fuel pump relay? Both relays are controlled by the EEC. (The ECT signal to the EEC tells the EEC coolant is hot (above 207F) and fan should be turned on.) Fans are also activated by the A/C being turned on.

Constant control relay: Long duration relays have two windings..one to pull the armature down and a second lighter winding that breaks the circuit on the first winding and holds the relay in operation with much less current drain.

Re: Fuel pump and cooling fan run with key off

both fuel pump and fan relays are in that relay module I think. You have to replace the whole box on fords don't you? Also, the car is giving me a obd code of car to rich. I looked the code up and it said possible cause is too much fuel pressure, which makes sense due to the pump runs with key off. Just sorta confussed by the whole thing. Keep in mind that this all happens with the key off. When key on, all seems fine.
