Engine Serial Number
Hey, is there anyone who can help me locate the engine serial number on a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu?? I blew a head gasket and because of mileage, the repair shop suggested I go with a used engine. He says he put in a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu engine but the car is doing the exact same things it was doing before the "fix". Is there a way to tell if he actually replaced the engine?? Does the serial number of a 2001 have any special characters that imply what year the motor was manufactured? I need all the help I can get. This car is driving me nuts.

i find it hard to believe that some shop would do an engine swap in fact it sounds like they pulled one over on you. how much did you pay? and how much time was the car in the shop? i dont know about any type of serial number but if you took it to the dealrship they should be able to tell you if it still has the original engine or not. but from what you have said it sounds like they tricked you.
