chimes going off

I have have a question on here for some time about the chimes going offon my 96 Ply GVoyager. They do this for no apparent reason, regardless of doors, lights etc. It seems that some on here believe that it is the Body control Module.

Can someone tell me where the body control module is located on the 96 GVoyager?

Thanx

I understand that the Body control module is the problem, but I am getting mixed signals on where it is located. I am hoping someone will be able to tell me where it is located, and them i may try and replace it with a used one.

Re: Re: Re: chimes going off

OK, I have the same or similar problem with a 88 Caravan.

The chime goes on randomly, and then goes off w/o any reason. It sometimes sits and chimes for hours or days in driveway, then goes off for weeks. It will start chiming while driving, or stop chiming, or come on and off.

There's no relationship to ANYTIHING!!!! I've become convinced sometimes it's caused by a bump or moving in seat or playing with seatbelt - but there's nothing. It's totally random and unrelated to even being close to the van.

I can kill it by pulling a fuse - naturally, the same fuse that controls the brake/turn signals.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated - and I promise if I track it down elsewhere I'll return here and post solution.

BTW, one solution, at least for when it's not being driven, is to pull the fuse - or better yet, just splice in a simple switch to disable it. But I worry about forgetting to turn it back on when driving - remember, no brakes or turn lights.

Thanks and hope to get some responses!!!

Re: chimes going off

well horndawg54 i wouldn't just replace the BCM {body controll module} as a hunch or maybe fix first off you have to check all the door switch adjustments including sliding door ajar switches at the rear of the sliding doors all the door switches on the vehicles have the tendancy to loose the adjustments if the doors get slammed hard on rear part of the front doors there is a small switch held on with one screw and if you look close you will see the center part is a pin type adjuster so carefully pry out the center to extend it from the switch then close the door this will adjust the depth of the pin till someone slams the door again then it drives the pin back in too far so i normally install 1-2 washers behind this adjustable pin and the rear sliding doors have a different type of switch but if you remove the switch you will see that the adjustable part is kind of coregated and does slide down the round retainer ring with a little effort as you must stop the outside part that holds the switch to the body firmly the drive the part with the electical pins through making switch longer then close the door switch will make a ratcheting sound as it adjusts itself. P/S you just pry off the sliding door switches with a blade type screwdriver between body and plastic round retainer do these adjustments first may save you some $$$$$ and work

Re: chimes going off

I had a '90 Daytona that did the same thing and a local Chrysler dealer told me that this happens to most mopars from the late 80's on and the only fix is to replace the module. I found if I opened my door when the chiming started and reshut it,it would quit.

Question Re: Re: chimes going off

The problem with it being related to the doors is - the warning light for "Door Ajar" is still operational. That is, the light and chime still work for that function and the light isn't coming on when the chiming starts.

The same is true for the "key-in-ignition" warning - it still works fine and will chime if key is left in (and mystery chime isn't running at that moment).

Thanx everyone. I seem to have the exact same problem as Mongox. they have a mind of there own, and never a door ajar. One thing have noticed is that it happens much less at higher speeds, but it does happen. The door- ajar light is never on.

I believe it to be the BCM. I have gotten conflicting account on where it is phyically located. I have heard under the Hood near the firewall on the passenger side, and under the hood near the fuse boxes, and even under the steering column.

I wouldn't know a BCM if it fell on me. on a 96 grand voyager, can anyone tell me where it is located and what it might look. I have a pick of one in my hayes manual, but still cannot find it. Not sure it is the right pick nor does hayes tell me where it is.

Again thanx for all the help. If i can find it and get the nubmer off of it i was hoping to find a used one.

Re: chimes going off

Put tape over driver door switch, note I bet your door sticks out a little? ! , The switch is making and breaking as your door is bending out. Cheers
