I have a 1989 Lincoln Town Car with power windows. On the drivers side window, the small one will go down about halfway and then makes a terrible grinding noise. If I give the window a bit of a push downwards, it feels like something in the re is grabbing and bringing it the rest of the way down. After the small window is all the way down the larger one does the same thing. Goes down about 4 inches then that horrible grinding noise. Given a bit of a push it continues for another 4 inches or so then theres the noise again. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the window regulator is worn out.

I used to have the same problem with my '89. Solved it by buying aftermarket gears for the regulator. Not hard to replace once you get to them. You will have to drill holes in the door at the dimples (you can't miss them) after you remove the panel. Use a 7/16" socket to remove the motor assembly. Open it up and you will probably see that the gears are pretty much destroyed. You might be able to get OEM gears at a local Ford/Lincoln dealer, but more likely you will have to find them elsewhere. Maybe even online. Hope this helps.
