i HATE banks!

Goddamnit! They just LOVE to let you overdraft your checking account just so they can charge you obscene "insufficient funds fees".

Aobut a week ago, i overdrafted my account aobut 3 bucks. Nobody said anything. My debit card still worked fine, so i figured i had money. Nope. It took a letter 6 days to get to my house to notify me that im in the red, and in the meantime, they've charged me 328 DOLLARS! . Nevermind the fact that i make only aobut a hundred bucks more than that in a MONTH and i have freaking bills to pay!

When the fuck did they start doing this?! As far as *I* could remember, the rule was that if you didn't have the money, the transaction doesnt go through! Now they are digging me deeper and deeper into the hole, a whole hellova lot faster than i can dig my way out, not to mention that they're fucking up my credit! I wish that i could get a lawyer to side with me against this extortion!

Re: i HATE banks!

Yeah, i bank with TCF and just 2 weeks ago i deposited 800 bucks. I had like 150 in there previous. I went online to check my balance the next day and it said that all the money was in there. So i bought some stuff online for my truck. Only to find out 4 days later that the money wasnt actually in the account yet and i got charged 30 bucks for an overdraft fee......thats bullshit

If it says the money is in the account i shoud be able to use it.

Looks like you need to call up the bank and tell them to take off that bullshit money, tell em you use debit and you thought you still had funds. From what I know, they've been doing that for a while, its amazing what banks will do for money, huh?

Re: i HATE banks!

This is the way that banks make extra money for themselves these days. Have you ever considered joining a credit union? They are more customer oriented, and I find them much better than banks. The credit unions in our area offer a line of credit attached to the account, and call it overdraft protection. If you should accidently overdraw your account, they will first tap into your savings account if you have one, to cover the check(s) at no charge. The next step would be to go to the overdraft protection LOC and use the funds there. There is also no charge for this, but you do have to pay back whatever money was "loaned" to you to cover the checks. Even if you do not have any form of overdraft protection, the credit union fees are MUCH lower than the banks, even on overdrawn checks. While banks in my area charge between $29 to $35 for each check you overdraw, the credit union only charges $12 to $15. No wonder banks hate credit unions.

Re: i HATE banks!

BOTH of those two top posts happened to me. I TOTALLY feel for you. I did the exact same thing 2 months ago. I was getting all sorts of letters at once saying I overdrew my account, and they were charging me a $25 fee for a $3 mcdonalds purchase. I went and just bitched up a STORM over it, since I still used my debit card, and the bank holds funds just as soon as the transaction from a debit card comes through. So I shouldn't have overdrafted. I bitched and bitched and yelled and got really pissy with them and they didn't give me ALL of my money back, but gave me some of it. I was like "this is the REASON i have a debit card so I can't write bum checks and now I can make bum SWIPES?! BULLSHIT!!!"

I love the credit union I use. They take the money out of my account automatically for my loan and the online stuff works perfectly. Plus the overdraft stuff just kicks ass!!!

Re: i HATE banks!

What is the $328 charge for? It's usually $25-$30, but not $328

I would go and argue with the manager of the bank that the whole purpose of a debit card is so you won't overdraw it, and even after the first charge, they should have notified you. You could probably get the last 4 charges removed. The jar idea is not a good one, since your money can get easily stolen.

Re: i HATE banks!

I would definitely go bitch at somebody. And dont even DARE walk out of there until they admit that its wrong. And once they admit it, go for the throat. Bitch and complain hardcore, and dont even slack for a second until somebody agrees to cancel the charges. No fucking way would I let them fuck me over for an innocent mistake like that.

What Im curious about though, is why are the charges all dfferent? Usually the charge is always the same.

Or is that the charge, plus the amount you spent? I dont think I fully understand.
