'96 start problem Neutral/yes-Park/no

Hi All, my son's '96 V-6 Mustang has a slight problem with the ignition/key. The car will only start in neutral, won't start in park? To start in neutral, you need to turn key one notch and shift from park to N.
and it starts great. Any answers?
