Big problem with exhaust fitting

Ok, right now my car is at midas, and with horrible news I find out that they cant fit a 3" catback exhaust because my rear suspension is in the way. They said the biggest they can fit is like a 2 1/4 or a 2 1/2. Any suggestions to how they can fit a 3, I know you can do it because ive seen it on 95 eclipse gsts. Thanks in advance

if it's made of the same parts, it will work the exact same. paying an extra $300 for the name and sticker isn't always the best thing to do.

Exactly. When I get around to getting a new exhaust system, I'm goin all custom pipes, and maybe just the apexi n1 muffler. As for a fmic, I'm gettin an obx core and custom piping. The whole thing would prolly cost like $400 less than a greddy kit, and perform just as good.

Re: Big problem with exhaust fitting

You guys ever thought if a muffler/exhuast shop will mandrel bend your custom exhuast too much? As in, a good exhaust sys is to have the least bend u can have. The prob is that the shop doesnt know (some do) about our cars and will bend too much. I think im gonna go custom too, but full turbo back =P lol ahha.

Re: Big problem with exhaust fitting

If a shop of any kind tries to tell you bullshit, just take your business somewhere else. You might mention that thousands of DSMs have 3'' exhaust and larger. There is no difference between a DSM exhaust and an exhaust for another vehicle, they should know that too much bending is bad.

Re: Big problem with exhaust fitting

Well i did mention that thousands of dsms have 3" exhaust or larger but they said they didnt mandrel bend, which i heard is the only way to get a 3" exhaust in(under the suspension)

Re: Big problem with exhaust fitting

I don't see how mandrel bends would change the way you could run an exhaust. Mandrel bending provides a smooth bend unlike the crush bent piping which looks like an accordian. This also allows the gasses to travel through the exhaust without the interferences caused by crush bends. Also when you crush bend 3" pipe, it is reduced in size at the point of the bend. Maybe to 2 1/2".

Re: Big problem with exhaust fitting

Isnt mandrel bending done by a computer? If so thats why they couldnt do it, they were doing the whole manual bending thing.
