fuel pressure

just wondering where and how do i check the fuel pressure on a 2000 intrepid 2.7, the engine has been knocking for some time now and from what the mechanic has checked that engine is going to die, sometime soon, well the about two weeks ago my sister comes home with a flat tire, i put the spare on and parked in the driveway facing down the incline......come next afternoon when i came home to put on the new tire the car cut off and i noticed it had no gas, so i take the 2 gal reserve tank we keep in the garage ( which was new gas, i filled it the day before because i had used it up mowing the lawn) and it turns on but kinda hiccups and tries to cut off, take it to the gas station fill up the tank and after driving it a while hiccups went away, car was doing fine and hiccupped every once in a while and last friday my sis took it to work got there fine and when she went to leave the car wouldnt start. the engine turn and you can hear the fuel pump start up when you open the ignition but the car won't turn on. i figure check fuel pressure first make sure the fuel pump is really working, might have fried it when it had no gas........please help

Re: fuel pressure

you'll need to get a special adapter to check the fuel pressure. It's an inline adapter that hooks into the fuel pressure port. Just FYI, if and when you do check the pressure, normal pressure should be between 44 to 54 psi.
