Ok, sunday is race day!!!

This sunday i'll see if all the hard work has payed off. The car I bult will be raced by my girl. The other car is a 1993 ford mustang LX 5.0. The #'s are about the same so i think it's gonna be a good race. I'll be pulling 15lbs, useing Falkin Azeans (spell) witch I think should be plenty sticky, and i'll fill'er up with some race gas. It's gonna be 55' that morning and a high of 75'. So i feel good about the race. I made an air box around the filter and plan on taking the head light off. Think this will help? Well wish me luck (or her) and i'll post pics of the race.

Re: Ok, sunday is race day!!!

Removing the headlight will help. It allows cooler air to enter the intake. This will, depending what the intake air temp is, give you a degree or so of timing advance. Provided you can get it down below 84 degrees (I think that is the cutoff). Might want to take out the spare tire, rear seat and don't fill up with a full tank of gas (I know it's not that heavy but every little bit helps )

EDIT> Also, did you cut out the area of the wheel well behind the intercooler. It will give you a little more flow.

Pump fuel weighs around 6.3 lbs/gallon. You can easily carry around an extra 80 pounds or so, thats nearly a tenth in the quarter

I wouldn't use that much race gas if you didn't tune the car on race gas, maybe just a gallon of race gas into 4 or 5 gallons of premium to get the octane around 96 and prevent detonation. Also make sure its unleaded, alot of tracks don't have unleaded race fuel.

At his level mods he's not tuning yet, so I would run full race gas. Drive to the track with only a little gas in your tank, then throw a couple gallons of race fuel in. Spyder had some good ideas I'd follow.

Leaded is bad, you can run it once in awhile though. It'll mess up your cat and o2 sensors, and something else big I don't remember. Usually people run leaded to get higher octane numbers and run air fuel, which is high octane and cheap.

Check everything out under the hood to make sure you're good to go. Good luck, let us know what you run.

Re: Ok, sunday is race day!!!

Well i guess it's a good think i don't have a cat. I am 3'' from turbo back. As for the mods, really only the head has the most work. Everything is running really well I can't wait to shut this mustang head up. He sayes something about imports everyday. No placement for displacement, if i hear that one more damn time!!! lol
