If its in one piece and running.......$500 to $1000. Maybe more if its in really good shape.

Re: caddy V8 500 CID

I assume it's from an Eldorado? Since that was the only car with the 500 in 1972. They can get premiums over the Deville engine/trans combo. $1000 is very optimistic, but $500 for both wouldn't be too far off.

Re: caddy V8 500 CID

Yes, if it's a 1976 Deville it has a 500. It is a weaker version, since it had all the smog equiptment on it, making 190 HP and 360 lbs-ft of torque.
Those wouldn't get a very high price, but $200 for the engine wouldn't be bad.

were they really rated at 190HP? if so, that's truely sad. how about a '76 Eldo, about the same?

Yes, 190 HP for 76 500's! Hard to believe! But they were torque designed engines, not just HP.

well we still have the running caddy 500 deville but the rear end puked it spider gears

did these cars come with bigger than truck 12 bolts??

it looks huge compared to others i have lying around

might be a disgrace but this car is used for derby racing and it lost this weekend to a mazda 626 in the dirt because of the rear end

need to see if a truck 12 bolt carrier will work

Cadillacs always underrated its engines.
Also, Hot Rod magazine bought a '76 500 engine from some wrecking yard for the purpose to see how much horsepower it would put out using the old "gross" method.
On a dyno, they got 303 hp, which certainly sounds a lot better than 190!

So it would be more accurate to say that the Cadillac engines dropped in horsepower from 375 in '69 and '70 or 345 in '71 to about 305 in '76.
