question about pulling in a 4.3 v6 silverado?

okay at the dealership they have a 03 silverado with the 4.3 v6 with a 5 speed, is it worthy of pulling a car or truck on a trailer? or will it knock knock after awhile?

Re: question about pulling in a 4.3 v6 silverado?

Hmm.. that sounds like a pretty decent deal. Got my 02 in 03 with 19k on it for $13,800. It'll handle a car or light truck alright I guess. Might have slight trouble up really steep hills. Just, dont expect fuel mileage out of it cause you'll probably get worse out of it towing than you would one of the V8s.

I'm going to use my SWB 4.3L/5spd to tow my Street Stock racer this year. The book says it'll handle a 4,100lb trailer load, but NOT to use 5th gear (O/D) when towing. So yes, mileage will suffer some. At 58mph, in 4th gear it turns around 2200-2400 rpm, on stock tires and a 3.42 rearend. This is less than my 72 Blazer turns at the same speed, and I've towed with it for 8 years. How well the engine holds up will probably depend an how hard you thrash it with a load behind it. Don't quote me on it, but my impression is the 4.3 V6 is basically a 350CI with the front 2 cylinders chopped off, so there's good usable torque there.
