"trac off" light comes on

I got my 2000 cavalier serviced days ago-changed oil & fuel filter, tire rotated etc. And they also suggested to replace brake rotors and pads (the question I asked here yesterday). And today, "trac off" light came on suddenly, i heard the squeaking noise when car ignited , and the light came on and stays. The car runs fine despite "trac off" light.

So my questions are:
1) Is "TRAC off" light related to the brake issue? Is this indicative of a (serious) problem?
2) I had a similar problem several years ago when the car still in warranty, and it was solved by changing the O2 sensor and fuel filter. But how come this happened again after i just got the fuel filter changed.
Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

Check and make sure your e-brake is all the way down. If not, dissconnet your batter for a good hr, pos side only.. then recconet. Oh and make sure you get your radio code if you have one of those uber ghey ones that require a theft code thing before you do.

Check your brake pads. I have a 2000 Cavalier also. The TRAC OFF light was on and I replaced the brake pads, drove it about 1/4 mile and it went off. I would check there first. May be the problem. If not the pads could be a sensor.

Sounds like the fools didn't replace a sensor when they did the work. Take it back and tell them they need to double check their work, b/c its screwing up your traction control.

jayson is right. i was that guy. i replaced the pads and didnt get a 1/4 mile down the road and it went off. i called the dealer, just to see what they would say about the the trac off light being on, and they said had to be a sensor. there was no way possible of it being just the pads. damn liars. i replaced the pads and that was it. sometimes it is the easy things you know. SOMETIMES!!!!

Re: "trac off" light comes on

aaaah i love post like this. it actually has something to do with the heat from the brake causing the sensor to go nuts. naw i'm bullshitting you. I'm glad you got yours figured out. My traction control rather goes on and off as it pleases. but thats out because i cannot stand the fucking thing anyway. if there was an easy way to get rid of it i would. lol.

yeah, my trac off light has been going on and off too. would that affect anything besides the traction control? and is there any way to disable it safely? and would it be worth it?
