How do I remove the factory radio from a 1998 olds 88?

Remove the screws from the bottom of the unit containing the ashtray, middle air vents (on either side of the radio), and radio surround, and drop it off. Then, just unscrew the radio, pull it straight out, and unplug the wires. Couldn't be simpler!

Re: radio removal
we just purchased a 1998 eighty-eight. got a smokin deal on it and is in great shape (only has 48k miles). Thank you for the instruction tips on replacing the radio by the way.
Our cassette player is jammed I was wondering though about the connections. I havn't pulled the stereo yet... can someone confirm what plug or pin count is used for connecting? I'm looking at a couple of stock radio cassette players on EBAY and not sure if their connections will work with our car. here is the link to what I'm considering bidding on: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/98-99...ayphotohosting Also, is it possible to get a CD varient? I saw a few factory CD radios on EBAY but not sure if they'd work. ANy thing I should look for specifically when shopping for used factory radios for my 1998 eighty-eight? Thanks, Ben

Don't mess with the wiring. I got a good radio w/CD player at a reaasonable price from Crutchfield complete with the adapter wiring harness. Just plug everything together and you're finished. Save the old radio. When you get rid of the car you can simply unplug the harness and plug the original radio back in. Been there - done it. |
