smallblock camshaft replacement

i am getting some lifter noise in my monte carlo, at least i am pretty sure it is lifter noise. i am planning on replacing the camshaft, i have never done this before so i am looking for a good step by step book that will help me. does anyone know of any book like this.

Basic rundown which is kind of in order, but alot of these steps can be interchangable.

1) Take out the distributor, marking where the rotor is facing, or bump the motor until it is facing the #1 cylinder (if you don't do this, no biggie because there are easy says to get it back in correctly).

2) Might have to take out the radiator, it would say you have to in this case.

3) Take off the valve cover and lossen the rocker arms until you can get the push rods out. Good idea to mark where they came from.

4) Pull off the harmonic balancer with a puller.

5) Disconnect the gas line and whatever else if hooked up, then remove the intake manifold. Make sure you get all the bolts because some of them may be hard to locate.

6) Take out the lifters. Doesn't matter which hole they came out of, since you are buying new ones.

7) Pull off the timing cover. Then pull off the timing chain. While your this far into the project it would be a good idea to replace the timing chain with a double roller or something. They are cheap anyway.

8) Remove the camshaft CAREFULLY. The last thing you wanna do it mess one of the cam bearings up.

Installation is basically the same thing in reverse order. Again, this is a VERY basic rundown, and there other smaller things that need to be done. For an indepth "how-to", consult a service manual as was stated above.
