Which clutch to buy

I'm pretty sure that my clutch in my Honda is going out. When I try to shift fast, especially 1-2, it grinds my gear, but if I do it slowly (even at high rpms) it does not grind. Plus the clutch feels rather weak. I don't know how to check if it's slipping or not. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a new clutch since I'm not planning on keeping the car for a long time. Can someone tell me if these clutches that are on ebay are any good?

Exedy/Daiken are good clutches. Did you tighten your clutch cable?

Re: Which clutch to buy

I have the XTD clutch and couldn't be more happier. I opted for the stage 2 though. Sounds like your tranny syncros are f'ed up to me.

to test if you clutch is slipping is pretty simple

find an empty parking lot
park in the middle of the lot
have the car ideling
place the transmission in 4th
release the clutch

if the clutch is good, the car will stall emidiatly
if the clutch is bad it can take a few seconds before it happens or will not happen at all.

as for the grinding this is typicaly a transmission issue, get you tranny fuid replaced with GM syncromesh fluid or Penzoil Syncromesh fuild, it takes care of little grinds.

as for the Clutch I picked up an XTD stage 2 for my Built B16 and i have only heard good things about them, my friend has it in his B18 and he loves it.

Re: Which clutch to buy

I did the 4th gear test, and it stalled right away. I guess I'll just try tightening the clutch cable, and see if it helps. I'm 100% sure it's not the transmission, because I tried taking it up to redline in 1st, slowly pushed the clutch all the way to the floor, shifted to second, absolutely no grind, let the clutch out and it was fine. The problem was when I was trying to shift fast.

yea. when they start to wear out, you'll notice the grind during those faster, harder shifts. when you push the clutch in normally and shift at normal speeds, the synchros have more time to catch up and go in smoothly.

Re: Which clutch to buy

Yea, Id be willing to bet its the syncros... In 1 and 2 isnt good... But Ive heard its common on Honda's in 3rd gear, which mine does it when I get on it...

As for a clutch, I personally went with Exedy (bought it cuz Im about to do a swap, mines not slipping, but I figured Id do it while I had to take the tranny off anyways)...
