New to the forums, 2 questions about 96 GS-R.

Hey everyone. I have one problem and one question about a modification. First off, I have this power loss issue. Every so often when going through first gear, and sometimes second, my car with continue to rev through the gear but without much motion to the wheels. A friend and I are starting to think that the clutch isn't grabbing or something. It happens a lot more often in first than second. And it mainly only occurs at 4-5kRPMs and higher. I have been reading a few topics about transmissions and seeing what people are saying about their problems. I can't really pin point anything, though. If anyone can think of anything that would be a great help. And by the way, once I get to third gear everything seems to run smoothly.

Modification Question: I have a question about intake and exhaust. I am thinking about an HKS Hi-Power for the exhaust, but I don't really know which way to go with the intake. A friend of mine with the RSX Type-S says go with Injen, but on the other hand my other friend says that almost everyone with WRXs say Injen is like a curse or something. I know I don't have a WRX, but it still makes me question the integrity, no pun intended, of Injen and their intake systems. If you could just throw some ideas and brand names at me, that would be helpful. Or let me know what intake/exhaust you have and how it holds up.

Thanks for the help in advance.

yeah, like what charlieteg said, cheap and about the same preformance: ebay is the place. As for your powerloss, i would say that you need to get some new teeth on your tranny are worn down. I could be wrong, but thats my beat.

clutch slippage is probably more likely on a 96 GSR.... how many miles?

It has about 168k miles. I do not know if the clutch has ever been replaced. And, about the intake, I just wanted to know what a good brand is for performance, not just something that looks good. I am not really worried about where I get it, but thanks for the tip on the ebay thing. My neighbor tells me the same thing.
