1995 Sunfire oil light and transmission trouble

I am not very car literate half the time. But I hold my own. I have a couple of issures. One being my oil light will not go off even after I have checked and changed the oil. I bought the car used so I don't have the owners manual. I heard there was a code or some way to reset the computer to recognize the fact that the oil light can go off. Please help if you can.

Second I am having transmisson problems but I don't think the transmission is out totally. My dad said the bolts need to be tightened a friend says it might be the filter. I just know when I drove it and it started showing tranny problems (I have stopped driving it in the last few days) I couldn't get over 25 mph and it wouldn't change gears. My dad fidgeted with it (I have no idea what he did) and it worked for a few days just fine then he drove it the other day and he came home and said it was worse than before. I don't know what to do.

the oil level light is not a code light, it's tied to the level sensor in the oil pan, if you added the proper oil amount (on the stick) then the sensor may have gone bad. Autozone or the like MIGHT have a replacement, if not it's dealer time. One screw and a good tug should have it out of the pan if it's anything like mine was.

If it is the oil pressure light DO NOT drive the car anywhere, DO NOT even start the car, you could have a bad/non-functioning oil pump. to even start the car will most likely kill the motor in a few seconds.

The tranny IIRC is electronically controlled, if there is a problem it will go into "limp" mode and stay in second so you can get it to a dealer to be serviced. That is what I suggest as well, take it or tow it, to your local Chevy/Pontiac dealer, and have them hook it up to the computer.

I am not contradicting you by any means but is there a reset for the warning lights I have heard something about shutting off the engine and pumping the gas 3 times and restarting it? Does anyone know anything about that. Or does anyone have the owners manual to tell me if this is true?

the only way to reset the lights is to correct the thing they are warning you about, or replacing the sensor if they are still lit after you correct the issue.

Never heard of the pump 3 times and restart thing.

Scam? Hoax?

It's probably from the guy who wants to check the headlight fluid.
Or was that replace the muffler bearings?
