One of my many questions

Ok i know i have asked about different motor swaps for my s-10 but what do yall think about droping a 327 out of a 65 impala into my truck. The guy will sell it to me witha trans for 300 dollars. All it needs is a tune up, and he will help me put it in.

Re: One of my many questions

try and get a newer moter if you can, if you dont want to do a fi swap, try and get like an 80 somethin moter, the older it is, the more wear and tear put on er', and either way, i suggest the pain in the ass of fuel injection wireing and not have to deal with a carborator and points n shit like that, all a pain later to avoid trouble now... if your not very machanicly inclined, then yes, do it because he is offering his help, i plan on attacking a fuel injected 5.7l 350 swap, but thats with the local shop saying no matter what i do, good or bad, their labor will be 500 to finish the job if i just cant get it running

Re: One of my many questions

Before you drop it in change the bottom end bearings, the cam shaft, lifters (Chevy had bad cam's back then) timing chain and all the hard to reach gaskets.

I would also replace the oil pump, and replace the frost plugs giving the motor a complete flush with a hose while they are all out (Motors can develop rust scale that gets caught in the botom of the water passages)

At this point you are pretty close to having fully rebuilt the motor so you might just want to look into how much a rebuilt motor will cost you.

That 327 is a high compression motor, so it should go like stink. However the valve seats might give you problems in the future unless he had hardened seats installed. The stock valve seats were made for leaded gas

If it's just a 2 speed transmission don't get it, if it's a good turbo 350 then it's a good deal
