2001 Town Car Air Suspension problems
My Dad has a 2001 Town Car. He's currently having problems with the air suspension. The car is level and not sagging in the rear, but the air suspension compressor will cycle on and off every 10 mins or so, thinking that the car needs to be leveled. The relay gets hot and eventually kills the battery. The local mechanic is not familiar with the problem, and we're trying to avoid taking it to the dealer, thinking they'll overcharge.
Anyone have experience or ideas with this problem? Thanks. |

Try shutting off the system to see if it leaks down. The OFF switch is in the trunk. PS: The compressor will DIE is this keeps up !!

He's had it checked for leaks and none have been found. He's had the relay taken out and the compressor disconnected and driven the car and it did not sag.

OK, That's a different story. Approximately, every 45 seconds, the system checks for proper ride height, runs the compressor for about 23 seconds, then recycles. If the system is getting a bad signal from one of the ride height sensors, it would continue to attempt to correct the ride height. The worst case scanerio would be all the sensors are working, and the system lost the ability to deal with the signals. Here's some other resources that might prove valuable in diagnosing what your experiencing..... My dad ultimately replaced the air suspension with springs, but the mechanic who did the job has not been able to remove the "air suspension" light from the dash. The mechanic was told it should be done by computer, but no one seems to have the software. I saw the post about cutting the wires to the test connector, but we'd rather not cut any wires. Any ideas?

Check with Bagmasters and the folks at lincolnsonline.
Personally I'll never go to coil springs but I've been watching the posts on the subject. The problem with buzzers and lights has been discussed an resolved many times on LOL, it may even be in their tech section.
