just curious

does anyone here think street racing is a phase in our younger years like from 16 to early to mid twenties?, like you get older and you move on from it to go to like auto cross or the drag strip on the weekends? like some of you will get married or have kids and just quit street racing...i know my dad still likes to street race lol and my mom, they in their 40's and still like to have fun out there......its kinda odd when all the younger kids and people look at a little black car and see two 40 year old people in there bumpin some snoop dogg and dre

Re: just curious

I've heard of lots of older (40+) people that street race from stop light to stop light or whatever. Never heard them playing rap or anything, but they'll race from time to time. I think the reason you don't see more "older" people racing is because they get smart as they age and realize the track is a better idea. Plus they have more money, so they can afford to go to the track.

My dad gets this road rage thing going on and races cars like modded Hondas and stuff. Sometimes the V6 DOHC Duratec can keep up well in the Taurus. I use it and kick ass or have fun trying usually.

Re: just curious

A few things that change as you age: maturity and responsibilty.

You buy a house and have a mortgage ... you think about these things before you enter into something that can get you sued.

Some people get married and have kids and they do not want to risk their own lives since others are counting on them.

Another thing that happens as you get older is you realize it is not worth the tickets, damages cars, lawsuits and everything else that goes along with it.

For me, I stopped street racing when I was 29 (I am 31 now) and what finally stopped me from racing on the street was a few red flags that popped up in my life and then one really bad street racing experience.

... haven't gone anywhere close to SR again.
I still drive fast and I will enjoy my cars, but not with another car in a competitive manner.

Re: just curious

Well, my friend's dad is like 50 and he races his Elise. Yeah, not your typical ricer, but a LOTUS ELISE. It might not make a lot of power, but a car that small....you better think twice.

My parents don't see the point in it, but they're boring and think that everything is dumb except sex.

Well, my dad is 51 and he'll race people in his C4 when they rev on him at a light, but it's only been a couple of kids in civics according to him and he doesn't really go all out.

Re: just curious

racing on the street isn't a phase, it's an impulse. the older and more mature you get, the more you think of the consequences.

a terrible comparison: as you get older, you don't eat like you did when you were 13, you think about what will happen first. and there are always people who don't think or don't care about the outcome.

Re: just curious

I'll still race every now and then but I'm like a prude woman now...I have to know you a little bit and find a nice comfortable safe place before I'll go all the way. The days of stoplight racing anytime some moron in a Civic revs his motor are over. I've never got a ticket for street racing but I know what happens here in CA if you do. It's not worth it.

Being a 16-21 year old Male my family insurance is already sky high...and to be honest, 1, just 1 speeding ticket and I can't drive again, so I try to limit my racing

But im pretty sure that my competitive instinct will remain when I get old, and I still won't be able to stand losing...so I believe I will still be racing, and more often too...

See my new thread "Why I Street Race" for what I think on the matter.
