right side engine knock...suggestions

Hello All,

Have lurked for some time... very informative board.
I have a 98 3.2L 138,000 miles. Great vehicle and i have
spent very little money considering age and mileage. Mostly general
maintanence.

At 90,000 miles had the timing belt and tensioner changed and
got suckered into purchasing a new EGR (dealership told me it needed
to be replaced) hard pinging ...I now know better

Somewhere about 10,000 to 15,000 miles ago i noticed a knock
right engine compartment always at about 2000 RPM or on hard acceleration... let off the accelerator noise goes away. After researching the board sounds as though i may have a bad tensioner.

Question...Should i get more mileage and age from this timing belt and tensioner. Job completed by an Isuzu dealership (06/2003) and i assume OEM parts were used.

thanks

Oil usage is stable. I change the oil at 3 to 4k and check with every
fillup. Maybe add a half quart after a really hard road trip. Used to drink more oil before i realized i needed to change the PCV and clean EGR. I have used full synthetic since day 1. Probably a waste of money
with the milage i now have.

thanks

Same problem here....b/t 2000 & 2500 RPM's. Though I was told at one shop that it could be my catalytic converter starting to break up.....or that my exhaust pipes could be double pipes and the inside could be coming apart. But that really doesn't make sense b/c it only happens when I'm pressing the gas and it is b/t 2k & 3k RPM's. Though this was not an Isuzu shop telling me this.

re:right side engine knock...suggestions

Maybe a "knock" is not the best descriptor of the sound i hear.
It is most difficult to describe ... kind of a metallic tapping-grinding-growling sound...
Sounds like my Mum's old sewing machine.

I have also noticed a definite lack of power as well. Most noticeable
on inclines. If i have come to a stop or slowed down before reaching
an incline i can feel loss of power while making the incline. Really have to goose it up the hill. And the noise that i have mentioned is most horrible at that time.

Had a tune up at 90,000 also : with plugs and wires that Isuzu suggested. Was rather expensive

thanks
