Engine dies
Hello All,
I have a problem with my 97 Montana....when we are driving it shuts off as if it were out of gas. Took it to a mechanic who hook it up to a machine & said we needed a new gas cap & EGR valve.....so we replaced them at about $200. and are still having the same problems...Sometimes it won`t even start at all, it cranks but won`t turn over....any idea? We are not willing to keep dumpimg money in it, but I`d rather fix it than get another vehicle & have problems also. Any help will be appreciated.....thanks in advance. btw we only have 84,000 miles on it. |

Re: Engine dies
You don't say what size engine but I would have the Crank Position sensor replaced. This is a common repair and usually causes the problems you describe.

Sorry, it`s a v6, last night we changed 3 spark plugs & it hasn`t died yet.....have to take it to the shop next tuesdayto have the remainder`s put in, so hopefully that`s all it was. Also when the first plug was pulled & taken to Autozone, they said they were surprised it ran at all, they were so worn down......keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks

Ok it stalled again today lol....must not be the spark plugs, unless only changeing the 3 isn`t enough.

Re: Engine dies
If the three you changed were as bad as you They should be changed regardless of what else you do. I don't however think that this is causing your stalling problem. The CPS is your best bet although the next area I would check after the CPS is changed if it continues is the ignition module.
