Towing with a TB I6 - What is your Experience

Let me know what you tow, the weight and experience that you have with your TB I6. Include the type of break controler you use and if you have a K&N filter.

Thanks

I tow two boat trailers, one around 3900lbs and the other around 3500lbs. I just put the K&N filter on in December, so I haven't testedthe towing yet, although I am hoping for more power and torque. My controller is a Tekonsha Prodigy, not the one with support for 6+ tires. The other one, I don't know exactly. My 02 TB tows both boats fully loaded much smoother and quieter than my old tow vehicle, a 96 GMC Jimmy. No more "bucking" while going down the highway! Erik

I had posted this question in another forum and someone had replied to it by stating the I6 was not good for towing. Let me know how the towing goes with the K&N installed. I heard a few bad things about the filter causing problems with the mass air flow module, thus causing poor performance.

Black Pearl- Sorry, I forgot you have the ext version, while I have the non-ext version. The V8 is probably much better for the ext version than the I6. Erik

I have pics, I'll get them up in a day or two. She was broadsided by a fire truck coming from behind in the on coming traffic lane with no siren on , on the driver's side as she turned left. It knocked the TB into a telephone pole on the right qtr panel and spun it about 60'. Luckily she and my daughter were not severly injured, by the grace of God. When you see the pics, you'll understand!

You're not likely to notice much of a difference with just a K&N filter. You might gain a few ponies, but that's about it.

Re: Towing with a TB I6 - What is your Experience

i have a 04 LTZ 4x4 4200 3.73's AIRAID CAI. I do not tow heavy, If I did I would have got a Tahoe. I tow my 4 quads with all the gear; at most 2500#s. I tow in 3rd, 4th for long flats, there are a lot of grades here to tow up and teh TB works fine for me. Mileage blows, ~11-13mpg. The biggest difference I noticed with the AIRAID was that it does not have to shift out of OD as much as before. I am sure there are a few more ponies there, but honestly did not feel any performance gain.

Thanks Chris
