35 psi. JDM, USDM, EDM. tires are tyres psi is no different. should also say on the tires themselves what recommended psi to use, the tires on the car now aren't the ones from the factory

The recommended PSI should also be printed on the tire.

Re: proper tire pressure for 87 honda civic si ( 175/70/13)
no luck on the tires, the car has 3 kelly 70's and some tire made in Czechslovakia , the Czech tire has a max psi rating of 36 and the kelly tires have nothing.
these tires were on the car when i bought it, so im going to drive on them as long as they last. im going to drive down to the gas station and pump them up 35 psi each and see how she rolls. thanks guys c maybe i can save some gas money too using the proper inflation. will see |

Re: proper tire pressure for 87 honda civic si ( 175/70/13)
35 PSI should be fine, and I'm sure you'll save on gas. I once had a Jetta that I was using to travel between Portland and Seattle on a regular basis. I noticed that my gas mileage started to drop off drastically, so I checked the tires and they were at an average of 25 PSI, filled 'em up and got great mileage afterwards.

Re: proper tire pressure for 87 honda civic si ( 175/70/13)
hey man maybe some bad news today not sure, what do you guys think ?
Just doing some routine maintance (rotating the tires) and happened to look up under the car at the transmission. (See Photos) Im not to experienced in auto mechanics so any thoughts on what i need to do would be appreciated. What appears to be going on and what steps should I take regarding this? Notes: When driving I dont notice anything out of the normal when shifting. Under the car fluid is fresh, and im not sure how long this has been going on. Re: proper tire pressure for 87 honda civic si ( 175/70/13)
The first thing I would do is spray some engine degreaser on the motor and bottom side of the tranny. Once everything is relatively clean it will be much easier to locate the leak. It's probably the tranny seal, but you've got oil all over the place under there so it could possibly be a CV shaft seal or the oil pan gasket.
How are your oil levels? Unfortunately there is no real way to check the tranny fluid level. About all you can do is remove the filler bolt on top of the tranny and fill it up with motor oil until it just starts to pour out of the bolt hole (assuming it's a manual trans). If it is leaking from the tranny seal there's only one correct way to fix it, tear it apart. You could try to "ghetto fix it" by draining the tranny and cleaning everything up, then squeeze some RTV into the leaky gasket (a friend of mine was in a pinch and did this with super glue, and it worked!) |
