Question Idea for a new "encyclopaedia" of Scale modeling (Updated)

Hi

I’m in process to extend my web site again. I was wondering how much people would be interested in a web site that anybody could contribute and add information to it with very little knowledge (in web designing)

The main goal of this web site would be to make an encyclopaedia of Scale modeling, with FAQ, Information, Kit reviews and any other information that you could imagine useful for someone. The idea is to leave everyone posting their own information to the site and helping the community to grow and improve itself with the incredible knowledge of every great modeller in the world. This isn’t a replacement to AF, this is not a forum. It’s really a web site with database structure that is made to give information and not start discussion.

I already started the web site, but it won’t be ready for few weeks. I want to know if I’m alone to think that it could be a great idea, a great addition to AF and if anyone would want to give some contribution to it.

My web site currently has more than 1000 visits by day, and over half of them aren’t from AF. So the goal is to help people from here and others that don’t know AF yet.

Thanks for any feedback or idea.

P.S. for those that know it, I would use Wiki.

Edit:

The work is well under way, but I need people that can help for tips about specifect model.

You had a problem with a kit and know how to solve it ? let me know !

I still need people for the English Spelling. The web site is near 200 pages and need to be checked by more than one people.

if you can help, PM Me !

If you can program it, it could be a great source. I would like to help out in the design of the site.

Re: Idea for a new encyclopaedia of Scale modeling

I definitely would like such a site. I will use it, and help to improve it by giving information. I think a keen structure is the key. Let us know!

Re: Idea for a new encyclopaedia of Scale modeling

Thanks for feedback. Glad I'm not alone that think it could be a good idea. Was expecting more reply, but...

I will work on it. If someone have too much time and want to help, PM me. (no skill needed, just need someone that can learn something that take 10 minutes and have some time to spend)

Thanks

Excellent idea. An encyclopedia of scale-modeling. Everyone can contribute and put in a tip or hints along the way that might be useless to some but useful to others. There can be a few ways of modifying the same thing (eg; lowering) and everyone can use any-one method that is easier for them. I can contribute some tips and hints for "budget" conversion.

Re: Idea for a new encyclopaedia of Scale modeling

Very good idea, the only places to get info/tips/how-to on scale modelling right now are these messageboards, and while they're fun, it's very hard to be organized.

My PM box says I never replied to you about your message about something like this, though I swear I remember typing out a big response...

It sounds like a great idea. One of my favorite things about the wikipedia, for example, is the ability to endlessly cross-reference articles. We've been somewhat limited by the forum software in that regard...

I don't really have the time to spare that I did when I built the FAQ and maintained the gallery, but let me know if I can help anyway...

Yes I sumited the idea for AF, but never had reply.

I changed of web hosting service, I have a lot of space and bandwith now so I can handle it.

Thanks for support ! (finally some "big" name think it's a good idea )

For now, I need people with lot of time. Once I will setup the help file, those with "fewer" time to spend would be more than wellcome.
