4 x 4 question

Had tranfer case and motor replaced in Feburary. Worked well until last week. Had a high pitched sound coming from the front side of the car when on the highway but didnt experience and shifting or transmission problems. Noe the check battery light illuminated but the battery is good and the altinator charging. The 2hi light not illuminated as well as the low fuel light on and the temp gauge inop. Also cannot shift into 4 wheel hi or low. Replaced sepented belt badly worn noise seems to gone for now. Any suggestions on the 4 wheel drive problem? Seems like short so where in the electrical system if the other lights or on. Checked all the fuses everything fine.

Re: 4 x 4 question

If your check battery light is on, chances your alternator is on the way out and the whining noise is from the alternator failing.

Replace the alternator.

Don't diagnose your charging system by the dash gauges.

Checked battery with volt/amp meter alternator is putting proper charge to the battery. Replaced serpinted belt and whinning noise went away.

Since you had the motor replaced, along with the transfer case, I would be suspicious of electrical connections. They could be loose and connected tightly when the engine was replaced. Check connections that go through the firewall, check for grounding straps loose or broken. If your alternator is putting out the proper voltage, then its connections somewhere, along with the furl light, 4x4 light etc, etc.
