I have an 2002 Jetta TDI, standard transmission, 90,000km
Air bag light came on when ready to start, will not go out when started or with the key in the on position. My warranty has expired, so wondering if there is anything I can check or do. Thanks |

Does anyone know if it's possible to clear codes without the "VAG COM"
I'm hoping this might get rid of the always on Air Bag light. Thanks |

Re: AirBAg Light
You need a scanner to access the system.

I dont belive the VAG-COM can access the airbag system because of safety concerns. Check there website www.vag-com.com i believe.

After installing on laptop and then plugging into the diagnostic plug, here is what I get 18044- I'm assuming this is the code Powertrain Data Bus Missing Message from Air Bag Controller. P1636-35-00 No Idea what these numbers represent 038 906 012 FD Controller Part # ? In another box I get "No response from controller". Any thoughts or ideas anyone? Thanks |

Re: AirBAg Light
The concern with the VAG-COM & air bag controllers is on the '00-'01 models with specific part number (6Q0-909-605-A) & supposedly it does the same thing when VW uses their 1551/2 scanner.
http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/vw_issues.html I beleive you need to register the shareware ($99) to be able to get into the air bag controller to get the real trouble code for the air bag system, what you have in that ECM P-code is just that the engine controller knows the air bag system is offline. |
