does anyone know if a buick 3.8 231 cu.in. out of a 1977 pontiac sunbird will swap into an s-10/15 any year.

You could make it fit, but why? Such a combination would be barely any faster than a 2.8 V6 in an S10.
You would need to use the 231 transmission, since the bell housing bolt pattern on all S-10s is different. Likely you would need to make a custom driveshaft and you would need to fabricate engine mounts and an exhaust system. It's a lot of work for not much power. A stock 4.3 L S10 would be MUCH faster. If you are going to all the time and effort to swap an engine into an S10, use a Chevy 350. There are kits available for those. |

is not the buick 231 and the 4.3 the same engine family. tranny bolt pattern and engine mount pattern the same? read this in several other forums. buick 231 is a heck of an engine and i have one that i don't want to waste. i thinkit also has several more ponies than the 2.8 which is a 60* v6 as opposed to the 231 90* v6 with more torque.
