2000 Power door locks
I hear that these going is a pretty common problem. It started on the rear passenger door and is creeping through the whole system. What it is, is that there just isn't enough juice to pop open the door locks. I am trying to fix this for a family friend, and would like to know if someone else has had this, and what they did.
Apparently Ford's way of fixing it, is to change out the whole system... got to love it. I know that they share the same circuit as the power windows... so I am wondering if it might be just losing power somewhere. The thing is, is that it started on the door the farthest away from the fuse box, and is getting worse, but the windows don't seem to be affected. Please let me know. Thanks |

Re: 2000 Power door locks
I had the same problem with my 2000 and took it to the factory to get repaired and all they did was replace the acuators they said it was a short in the ground. But be aware they fixed that problem but now the window on the same door is having problems going up and down. If you are correct in that they are both on the same circuir just watch for this problem

I am having the same problem. It seems to work occassionaly and at other times it won't. Let me know if you have a fix. I don't want to pay for the dealer to do something I could do.

it is common to share the ground circuit for all locks. all nthe actuators could be bad at once i have seen this ,but i would check the wire that run threw the drivers door to the cab. the wires will brake and do that work not work thing. the hardest part is getting the boot off the wires.

I am having the same issue. started with the drivers door and then the passenger door.more consistent with the drivers side. occasionally the power window will not continue to move, initial movement. have to keep hitting switch only goes a bit. after that its fine.battery is good. i dony buy all door lock motors are bad. i dont think any are. had heard that relays maybe- electronic guy that installs auto start systems etc but they are buried way under the dash. I think they are on separate circuits. passenger/drivers side however the RAP module has some connection to both-thats the anti theft mod i believe. ever hear of that going bad? |

I was able to get them out. what a pain! basically ran out of time and had to reinstall them so I could lock the vehicle. now they work every time. i will still probably need to replace them. I think all I did was shake loose the carbon build up on the inside of the actuators and now the carbon is not causing a short to ground for example. only a matter of time. I will probably just replace both at some point. I still get a battery led on the dash above 3.5k on the tach. system is charging but charging voltage drops to just over 13v when tach hits >3.5k. maybe a bad regulator? |

Re: 2000 Power door locks
**INEXPENSIVE FIX FOR F-150 WEAK ACTUATOR PROBLEM**
I have found that the lock actuators in 99-02 F-150 doors become weak and won't lock or unlock properly. Unfortunately the actuator is serviced as a complete door latch assembly. (pretty damn expensive through Ford!). So, I've come up with about a $12 fix per door. Very simple.... I use a Bulldog BLD742 lock actuator. Comes with all the hardware to do the job (for less than $13). I install the aftermarket actuator directly under the inside lock knob (after removing the door panel of course). the lock wiring is located about 1/2" away so 2 quick connects to the pink and pink/black wires, some simple mounting you have "booster" actuators that literally SLAM up and down. I have done this on 4 f-150's already, and have another scheduled next week. Message me if you can't find the actuators cheap, I'll set you up with a good source. |
