I'm looking at purchasing a 1978 Mustang King Cobra that's up for auction at a local finance company. I was wondering how to identify if it's a original or just a replica. It's an automatic and I'm pretty sure all King Cobra's were 4-speeds.

I'm sure it'll be a real one. I don't think I've ever heard of a King Cobra replica. Don't take it the wrong way but I don't know why somebody would make a King Cobra replica.
Anyway, the car will have a 4-speed, 2 barrel carb, 302. If I remember right as well there should be a funky paint job that went with them. I think there's some lines going down it or a cobra on the hood. I forget but it should have something like that. Also, how much is the car going for? I think one in a very good condition will go for something around $7,000. It has to be in spotless condition though to get anything above that.

If its a good car, get it!
I use to have one, pretty fun littlew car. I rank it right up there with the Pinto, and everyone here knows I love Pintos

Someone must have changed the tranny then because it's got an automatic, but my brother has an original 4-speed to fit it. And yes it does have a funky paint job. As far as what it's going for, I got the inside scoop on the highest bid right now, just 800 bucks.
