Types of Oil Matter?

always wondered, does the type of oil you use make a big difference?

my first oil change for my GP is coming up. in sunfire I just put regular motormaster gold oil in (10w30)

on the way home their was a commerical on the radio for some quaker state oil that apparently gets "maximum preformace" out of your engine blah blah blah

does it matter?

btw its a 1999 GT (120,000km)

May sound crazy but when I was in collage I took a auto class, for the credit. The one thing I heard and remembered was; "always use Pennsylvania oil. Never use Texas oil". Something about the acid levels.
I use Mobile 1 in all my low milage motors. And Quaker State 10W30 in the higher milage one.
Always had good luck. Well, this last motor blow up, but, that was a bad part.

I'm not sure if you mean you are changing oil in a used car you bought or first time the car has had the oil changed ever, either way I would go synthetic. Its worth the extra money. at 120k I would definitely run a good cleaner through it and check the seals after you make the change, synthetic leaks a lil more... I was converted to synthetic at 27,000 miles on my 03 gt and im pretty sure i saw a grin on her front grill when I filled her up.

Re: Types of Oil Matter?

haha

sorry what I meant was its the first time I am changing the oil in her, yes the car has had oil changes before with the previous owner. Whats the advantage to synthetic over regular oil in a 120ks+ engine

Big diffrence? Not really. Heres what the syn. oil does. It's harder to break down. Which means that the car won't eat as much of it. It also lubricates a little better and last longer than petrol. oil. I use synthetic blend myself. Wont cost you as much and its the best of both worlds. I think two cases of mobil 1 full synthetic ran about $60 here. 1 case for the GP and one for the thundra. if you have the money go with syn. blend for full syn. You can ride it up to about 7500 miles without a change as oppsosed to the 3,000 with normal oil.

Yeah when I mounted them I really felt an increase in power, actually I think it was just the hesitation from drivers around me because they were too shocked by the overuse of ricer flava to step on the gas

I generally roll with the neons off cuz of cops, however I do belive I cut you off a few days ago... just kidding haha but ill keep my eyes peeled. Do you live near tampa rd?

OH, then you must be the reason I get the cops to follow me home every night. Started to run a Mustang GT a couple nights ago. At the last sec. seen the cops two cars behind me. Just had time to yell at the Mustang. Or we would both be walking to work.

Good luck. May call you in a couple weeks. Need some work done on the car.

In GA you wouldn't even get to walk to work, they lock you up.

For the sake of staying on topic though, I use Mobil 1 with 67k, and will switch to high mileage when I get around the 80k mark. I switched at 50k and haven't had leaks, heard of others who have em though. Maybe I just got lucky...
