Left Signal Light Problem

Bought a used 2003 Silverado a couple of weeks ago. The left signal light doesn't work sometimes - this is not a bulb problem. When pushing the left turn signal arm down it sporadically doesn't work. No pattern. It seems to lock up - sometimes the indicator light in the dash remains illuminated - sometimes it doesn't. When it locks up I push it back up into the neutral position and push down again and it works.

Its frustrating - any ideas as to what the problem is?

Re: Left Signal Light Problem

Sounds like it could be a multifunction switch. At least this is what they call them on Fords. I work at a ford dealer and we see quite a few problems with multifunction switches, but not 100% on a GM. By the way, yes I own a 2003 Silverado and work at Ford.

Good testimony not to buy a Ford.

blacksilver, is your truck still under warranty?

i would look at he plug for the left sig. there may be a lose wire or plug. also did thay install a plug for a trailer it could have a short. next run a ground from the frame to a mounting point neer the left turn sig. chevy's are good at bad grounds.

Thanks for the feedback but I need more direction. Where do I find the plug for the left signal light? Underneath the steering column? How do I access it?

What would a mounting point near the left turn signal be?

One more thing, sometimes when I push down the left turn signal arm and the turn signal indicator in the dash does not come on, I can get it to come on by pushing on the brake.

As far as warranty goes, when I purchased the vehicle, I got a 3 month/5,000 km warranty.
