I want to put ring and pinions in my toyota, but still want a fair amount of power but mainly good gas mileage (somewhere around 18-20, if possible) I have 32 in. tires on it now and I get about 12-14 mpg. So is there anyone who has 32 or 33 inch tires on their toy and could tell me which would get better gas mileage, 4.56 or 4.88. I hope to get both sides. Thanks. hope yall can help.

Re: need help from everyone!!
The higher the gear, the better the mileage in most cases. The lower the number the higher the gear ratio so the 4:56 would probably be the better choice. (somewhere around 18-20, if possible) is wishful thinking!!

4.56 would be better. i have 4.88s with bald 35s. ill have 37s soon. but always think ahead. what are you going to do to your truck? are you going to go further with it in the future, building it up wise? it just sucks to replace stuff wishing you would have done it right the first time.
