taking out factory stereo

i just bought an Alpine 9845 stereo ....how do I remove the factory stereo ? and do i still need a dash kit?

I own a 98 civic ex also, and I just recently had to take out the whole dash to get at the speedo: First, you need to start from the left side by the sunroof/power mirror buttons. Take that panel off first, then move to the right side of the steering wheel, then do the glove box, the cover under the heater/ac controls, and then finally you can get at the radio console. I would recommend finding a service manual, because they tell you exactly where all the screws are that you need to take off, since some of them are hidden. After you get all the coverings and fasteners off, just slide the stereo out and unhook the wire harness and antennae cable. Hope this helps.

I have a 95 civic and I replaced the radio very easily. Just take off the panel by the radio/ ash try (should be 4 or 5 screws) and then there should be a small screw holding the radio in place (back of stereo). Your new stereo should just pop in place. Use a wiring harness if you bought one.

I'm not quite sure about taking out the WHOLE dash, but overall the steps to taking out the bottom panels to get to the radio sound to be correct. Good luck with the install.
