Antifreeze smell

HI I just purchased a 99 beetle 2.0 automatic for my daughter. The car seems to run ok but there is a strong smell of antifreeze from the vents when I turn the heater on could it be the heater core? there are no puddles or wet carpet. Thanks DD

Re: Antifreeze smell

I haven't heard of it much in New Beetles, but would say your symptoms strongly suggest it.
