Question 2000 Rodeo A/C

I have a 2000 Rodeo 4x4 V6 with just over 60,000 miles on it. I just started having a problem with the AC. If you are at a stop or going very slow, the air is not cold, but when you speed up, it gets colder. On the highway or going about 45-50, the air is nice and cold. I checked the pressure and for leaks, and all was good. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what I should look at next.

Thanks!

Re: 2000 Rodeo A/C

Did you check to see if you have enough gas in the system? Do you have the recirculate lever to the left?

If by gas you mean refridgerant, yes that is good. All settings are as they should be, button pressed in with light on, lever to the left for recric. It just wont get cold unless I am moving.

Re: 2000 Rodeo A/C

Check to make sure the electric fan is working when the A/C is on. What pressures did you measure for low and high side, and at what temperature?

Re: 2000 Rodeo A/C

Reviving an old thread here. I still have the problem with the A/C. This is a 2000 Rodeo V6 AT 4wd.

When I turn the air on, the electric condensor fan in front does not come on. If I am reading the schematic properly, the pink/white wire off the triple pressure switch(top of drier?) should be the hot to the fan relay. When I hook up my multimeter to it, I only read .8v, shouldn't it be 12+? Could this be my problem?

I jumped the fan and it works fine. Can I replace just the triple pressure switch, or is it not necessarily the problem? I would really like to figure this out without taking it in.

EDIT:

I jumped the fan so its on all the time, and it really did not make a difference in the temp. Now here is what I am thinking, careful it's not a safe thing to be around. When I drive the truck at a normal speed, or rev it in the driveway at around 2k, the air gets colder and the lines get cold under the hood. If it sits, both get warm. My thinking tells me that the compressor is not doing its job, and is getting weaker. The faster the engine revs, the faster the compressor spins, right? So the should be the cause.

Go figure, I can fix million dollar aircraft engines with my eyes closed, but an automotive engine kicks my butt

Help, Please!! Thanks!

THe repair manual I have does not talk about it much. Is it something I can get easily and change without uncharging the system? From what I have posted, do you think that this will fix the problem, or is it part of it?

Re: Re: 2000 Rodeo A/C

Take it to a shop and have them put a manifold gauge set on there and see what your pressure are. Could be too little refrigerant or too much refrigerant causing the problem. When reving the engine causes the aux fan to come on, sounds like low refrigerant or a compressor on it's way out. Get the pressures checked and go from there

I just had the same problem with my 99 amigo Im assuming that the ac parts are the same here. They evacuated the moisture and then added some extra freon. got it back today and it seems to be working a lot better now, waiting for when we hit the 90s and 100s.

nope that didnt fix it, the ac still sucks, the only thing I can think of is that the condenser or is it called an evaporator is small and that is why it has so much problems on hot days. I have a toyota camry and the AC on that works so much better then the Amigo.

like 5 to 10 mins in the amigo to cool down

2 mins in the toyota

Have you guys cleaned the condensor recently. I cleaned my honda the other day and it was extremely dirty. Also, the evaporator can get dirty but its more involved to clean.
