I'm driving my 2000 XJ these days because the engine in my '94 decided to fall down on its distributor when I hit a bump in the road. It was very strange. I hit a minor bump on the road and all of the sudden all hell broke loose. My gear shift tilted way over to the right, I heard a nasty clatter and the 4.0L sounded like dragster. I was in the middle of nowhere so I drove it another twenty miles to the Jeep dealer in my town. When we opened the hood the engine was leaning way over toward the passenger side and was resting on the distributor. I got it all fixed for $2300. The three motor mount bolts on that side sheared off completely causing the straight six to fall about three to four inches which cause the exhaust manifold to crack. The lesson was when your motor mounts bust as the ones on the oposite side did a few months earlier, get them fixed right away. The mechanic said the engine torquing without motor mounts on one side probably put stress on the motor mount bolts on the other side. I fixed the motor mounts on the driver's side, but it was after several months driving it that way.
