Damn Airbag Light

My dad owns a 1991 Taurus Wagon GL with a 3.8L V6 in it, the car only has 62K original miles on it and the damn airbag light just keeps blinking and blinking and blinking and won't turn the fuck off, I am very close to just taking the dash out and snatching the bulb out, how would I go about doing this or is there some easier way to rid this POS of this problem?

Re: Damn Airbag Light

The blinking light is giving you a trouble code. There is something in the system that is not operating properly. How many times does it flash? It should flash some and then pause for a little bit. Count flashes between each pause. This is the code.

Hey 420,
With immature language like that, I'm surprised anyone on the forum would see fit to respond to you.

Re: Damn Airbag Light

I'm sorry but you should hear my dad cussing this light, he makes me sound mature! It's really ticking him off as well as me. FORD can't find anything wrong with the car even the mechanics at the dealership are cussing this car, so I'd appreciate it if you'd acknowledge the situation before taking strikes at my language.

You will get more consideration and better response if you approach a problem from a mature and constructive position. If you think that Ford has the market cornered on problems you have little experience in the automotive field. People care little if your family members are swearing at the car, it shows their level of maturity as well.

That blinking Airbag light is the Airbag computer’s way of telling you that there is a system problem. Also, you should know that when the Airbag warning light is blinking/flashing the Airbag system is inoperative. The computer is flashing a diagnostic code. Counting the flashes allows a technician to refer to a diagnostic procedure to aid in diagnosing and repairing the system problem. A visit to your local repair facility should provide the answer and solution to the flashing Airbag light.

I'm, sorry man, but those are no technicians. Either they're new and don't know old stuff, or they're just idoits.. I don't know either way. I think you just need to scan the computer for codes and that will tell you where it's sees an electrial fault. It's handy, but can never tell you what the actual problem is. I figure it's not giving you the correct code, since I've never heard of 10. I am not saying it doesn't exist, because I am not a mechanic, but I just have never heard of code 10 on an ECC-IV. Perhaps someone could shed some light onto what code 10 means from the air bag light.. Maybe not...

I know what you're saying. If I was working on a Taurus I'd be screaming some cuss words too. It seems like it's designed for the common person to fail on repairs. I know I like working on my Ranger a lot more . My knuckles don't get all cut up cause so much crap is in the way. It's too compact for it's own good.

In your words: I think you need to take it to someone who knows the the f*** they're doing.

Re: Damn Airbag Light

Check your manual, it while say the problem why its blinking the light, and if your air bag is broken just disconnect it.

Re: Damn Airbag Light

Thanks for the help but the scan tool showed nothing in relation to the airbags, it told me about the O2 sensors I JUST replaced about 2 weeks ago and that's about it. I've found a fix to the light issue though, put an envelope in the right hand side of the instrument cluster and BOOM you can't see it anymore, the only downside to this is that you cannot see the fuel guage either.

What I got out of the text above, is that the light indicated that the computer sees a fault, as well as tell you if you have issues with your air bags. I would start with getting the o2 squared away and see if that gets rid of it. You engine cannot calcuate the air/fuel properly if this sensor is not correct. You will get bad gas mileage, so it's worth fixing.

Airbag Light

What are the chances of clearing a code after you've diconnected one of the sensors? I've been chasing a short and started eliminating (disonnecting) circuits looking for a drop in current draw. Ignorrance on my part.

I've tried shorting positive to ground and leaving battery disconnected overnite.

(Three blinks - a pause - three blinks again, etc.)

Re: Damn Airbag Light

I had a 91 Taurus. The air bag light and the check engine light blinked from 1995 to 2002. Wait til you get the check engine light blinking along with it. At night it is like driving in perpetual road construction. I did the envelope thing for awhile. It helped, but those lights really blink bright. The car always ran good though. The guy who bought it says the lights are still blinking. If those were turn signal bulbs they would have burned out within a year.
