I ran into a problem with my 97 Jeep Wrangler this morning and appreciate any input on this. My battery gage went off scale high and the "check gage" light came on. I pulled over to the side of the road and shut off the ignition. When I turned the ignition back on to check if the gagewas still reading high, everything was completely dead. I could'nt even get my emergency flashers to work. After about 5 minutes, I got my interior lights and flashers , but my clockhad to be reset. I took my kids to school and on the way back ,it went off scale high again. What could be the problem(s). Alternator, voltage regulator. How do I isolate the problem.
Thanks, Doug |

Sounds exactly like when my JGC alternator fried. All the gauges went crazy and I shut it off after that it wouldn't fire, the battery was totally drained. After 20 minutes that battery had bearly enough juice to turn the engine over. I just replaced the alt. and it's been fine ever since. I'd take off your alt. and have it tested at autozone or pepboys
