Accents...

Just looking at the Fargo movie thread in stress release and wondering to myself, I wonder if I have an accent. So, calling all Southerners, Northerners and East Coasters, since you are the ones usually picked on about accents, do people in the midwest/central US (ie Utah, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, etc) have a distinguishable accent to you?

I have heard it sounds like we have stuffy noses...

Re: Accents...

My neighbor is from the south and she tells me it sounds like we have a stuffed up nose. But in my opinion we don't have accents...everyone else does.

I'm Canadian and people in California don't seem to have an accent to me. David Letterman, Conan Obrien, Jay Leno...they all sound normal to me. Oh, and I've never heard anyone say "aboot" and I hear lots of US citizens end their sentences with "eh". The most recognizable accents that I know of in the US are the Boston area natives, New York area natives, and "southerners" like Texas and Alabama.

Nah, it's just that thin "mountain air" in those states located in the Rocky Mountain range, not stuffy noses.

Re: Accents...

sadly i have some of my grandfathers blood...he was born and raised in the back woods of Kentucky...and i've been told i have an accent. I never realized it until i was told and since then i always seem to catch myself saying things with an accent....it sucks, i've made myself paranoid.
