Question from a future 240 owner...
I'm curious about the sr20det swap, and yes i've read about it, so no worries about that. i was curious as to if anyone here has it done on a 98 240sx what gas mileage you get when you stay off boost? and when you are hitting boost what mileage you get.
i looked in the faq but didn't see anything about this. |

Re: Question from a future 240 owner...
wtf you mean off boost???? your always on boost, it just depends what psi you are running. More psi usually means more fuel.

Re: Question from a future 240 owner...
if you mean stock boost. Well i would make the assumption that its just as good as any other jap engine out there. I mean there econo cars. I dont have an sr, so i really cant tell. But i would assume it gets good mileage. But it really depends on engine cleanliness. Air filter, spark etc...

Re: Question from a future 240 owner...
it doesnt really matter what year the car is does it?? An sr is an sr. It would depend on the year of the engine, as they changed over time. Why do you want to know in the first place?? ARe you contemplating not getting an sr because of low gas mileage in this crisis of gas prices?? Put it this way its better than a v8's lol.

even 18mpg isn't "better than a v8" cause a v8 mustang get's about 18. |

Re: Question from a future 240 owner...
seems like your concerned about details...well a swap is considered illegal so have you considered emissions testing? (if u have it)
i think you can look up Sr specs for mileage. There shouldn't be a huge difference. Obviously, freeway mileage is more than city and driver characteristics play a big role so if you keep it under 3k... it's probably a lil' more than your average nissan 2.0 liter engine.

Re: Question from a future 240 owner...
I average about 17mpg city, 24-26hwy.
Best I've gotten on the highway was 28mpg, that was doing 70-80mph all day on the freeway(300+ miles) with maybe 5-6 miles of city... and a quick bullshit burnout. That's in my car... which is considerably lighter than most 240sx's... I'm around 2200-2300lbs with driver. So that should give you an idea.

Re: Question from a future 240 owner...
yea, but what im saying is the year of the car wouldnt really affect it that much at all. I mean you probably wouldnt even notice. Wow you get 2 more miles out the tank yippee!!!. Your gonna fill up when low regardless so it doesnt matter.

Re: Question from a future 240 owner...
If you are worried about gas mileage, get a hybrid car or something, stay away from turbos, V8s and similar engines.

Re: Question from a future 240 owner...
The engine isn't always in boost. I cruise at about 15in HG(vac) everywhere and hit about 10in HG(vac) accelerating. Where your foot is on the throttle percentage wise determines whether you boost or not. Its linear when you hit the right RPM which is prolly about 2500RPM to hit full boost. Look at the MPG of a sentra or NX200 or 2k(whatever it is) and that is prolly what you'll average.
