97 4.3 converter broken 02 code

Hi All I just got this 97 dumped on me and was told it had an 02 code so all 02 sensors were replaced I also noticed that the converter is broken up I can here it ideling and when I shake it. Is there any common problems for this year? He said that the gas mil went to hell also. I drove it home and seems to drive fine. I just don't want to put a converter on and burn it up.

1.) Replace the ignition switch.

2.) Replace the Cat.

3.) Do a complete tuneup including:

Cap & Rotor
PCV Valve
Wires
Air Filter
AC Delco Platinum Plugs
Fuel Filter

Flush and refill all your fluids.

Thanks Everything was done 3 months ago except the converter. Why would it go bad I always thought raw fuel would do this but wouldn't it send a code? thanks Oz

So you are telling me everything in that list is done?

Or are you assuming everything was done?

It was probably going bad prior to 3 mos ago... Cats don't just break up instantly.. Takes a while... Replace the Cat and you'll be fine.
