lookin for suggestions
I'm looking for the most cost efficient way to get large hp boosts(i'd like to stay away from nitrous). I currently own a 99 v6 stick completely stock w/ 65k mi. I'll probably end up with something around 3-4k spending cash from the summer job, just so you guys have a figure to work w/. Thx for input

Re: lookin for suggestions
ok ill help u out and im sure others will too, but first let me help u understand one thing before anyone tells u to blow all your money... the 3800 wont get large amount of hp for that kind of money. u can get a nice gain or even a great start, but u have to spend alot of dough to get our cars "alot of hp". nitrous is the best hp for our cars for the money. nothing else will give u that power...not a supercharger, not a turbo, its just how it is. u can blow 4 grand on one of those 2 things but u wont get the gain to match the bottle. a cam may get u started, good intake, decent exaust, a dyno tune, headers, work on that handling u dont wont her going sideways on u lol. our cars can get some get up, but it costs us alot more money than everyone else in here. 4 grand on our cars will maybe get u running what a ls1 runs. 4 grand on a lt1 or a ls1 will get u around 500-600hp if not a bit more. we are playing the catch up game all the time. 600 for a nitrous system and a few more bucks for the extras will get u running with ls1 cars. just so u can see the difference.

Re: lookin for suggestions
oh and just so i dont sound like a fool, when talking about super chargers and turbo's im saying for what u have to spend thats all u will be able to get and with just the kits and no building up of your engine u wont get much out of them. with a engine built for either of the 2, your car will haul ass.

another way of doing it is just getting an LS1 or an LT1, or if you're not wanting to go that way, remember to lighten up your car by taking out things you dont need/ever use, to free up some hp on your 6.

Re: lookin for suggestions
from what i been seeing in here it depends on where u live, my boy got a 2001 ss they wanted 16 for it he walked for 14, ive seen ls1's for 8-12 grand, lt1's depending on the condition for 3-6 grand. an older lt1 car wont make as much power as it use to unless its in great condition, which is hard to find and when u do they want a bit more for them, so i would try for an ls1 if u could.

Re: lookin for suggestions
And usually tack on another 3-6 grand to have it installed completely if you are having someone do it. probably 1-4 grand if you do it yourself. I believe.

Re: lookin for suggestions
hell yeah u can do it. that would be bad as hell. nobody would see that asswhoopen coming. do it dude, i wanted to do it but then i had to show people that with will and money a v6 could do just as much, but man you should go for it. people will tell u the money spent can go towards buying a v8 along with selling your car, but damn that. do the swap, it will cost u but not as much as an ls1 would, trust me people will like what you've done when its finished.

1. Whats the diff between ls1/lt1 2. Which is easiest to install 3. Which is cheapest overall cant wait for responses, getting excited

Re: lookin for suggestions
well lets see the ls1 has a nice amount of hp over the lt1, ls1 is like 300hp out of the box the lt1 is somewhere near 260 or so if even that. so u would get more power out of the ls1. in the long run your lt1 will leak oil like hell, they just do(some people will tell u they dont, but in real life monkeys dont fly either so dont fall for that crap) price wise youll get that lt1 cheaper, now are u gonna get a brand new fresh out the box engine or will u find a car with a 8 in it? that may make a difference in prices. as far as over all money spent, not counting the engine prices i think u will spend the same amount at the end. i havent done this swap ive just helped and seen it done a dozen times so im no expert, some of the other guys have and they will be able to help u out more
