Police Scanner?

Anybody know the exact scanner frequencies for thigns like traffic stops, etc? I got me a scanner but there's about a gazillion, 43 billion, 12 million, 434 thousand, 807 channels. I found one, but i haven't heard any traffic stops at all. Dammit, I wanna know where the man is waiting for me. Do they use specific universal channels or does it vary by district, town, etc?

Oh, and where can i find one I can put IN dash? Gratzi!

Re: Police Scanner?

They use trunking anymore. It is on a random scan an selects a different channel everytime they key up. You should get a trunking scanner.

Re: Police Scanner?

I always wondered why people bought scanners (unless they were trying to do something illegal), but then I overheard someone's police scanner while the riots were going on here in L.A. - I was freaking riveted to the thing - "code 3" calls were coming in left and right and squawking over each other. It was freaky to hear so much panic and pandemonium coming from the police deptartment.

Re: Police Scanner?

Why the heck did u get a scanner for the police??? Get a radar detector.

Sure a scanner is fun, heck, i know I had fun with my grnadfather's and uncle's, but not to find the police, unless u are doing illegal stuff (besides speeding, 'cause that's ok! ).

Re: Police Scanner?

heh, the FIRST fifteen minutes I was using it, we were driving in my friend's 442 by a guy who was on the side of the road jacking with his pos caddy up and laughin at the shitty car when the scanner came up that the car we just drove by waas rear ended and the guy too off down the road. Sure enough, 5 miles down the same road, the guy was pulled over. We were both hooked from then on.

Re: Police Scanner?

I doubt that it would help you beat speeding tickets. I doubt they'd make announcements every 30 seconds, "Officer 34 is at mile marker 76 on I-70 running radar". They might be good about raids, etc.
