What is TRD? ...And can it be added?
Hi, noobie here
Currently have an 04 DC PreRunner SR5 Tacoma. Just have a couple of questions. Basically I want to know what exactly is TRD? I kind of have of an idea, but I want to know exactly. And can that option be added to a non-TRD tacoma? Honestly I dont know much about cars/trucks but i've been seeing them (the TRD sticker) on a lot of trucks, so it got me wondering. What would be the benefits, improvements, etc for having a TRD truck? If possible, roughly how much would it cost me to install? I'd imagine Toyota would be the only one's that would be able to install? Thanks for any responces. |

Re: What is TRD? ...And can it be added?
TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development which is a division of Toyota focusing on performance parts and accessories.
On a Tacoma, it is an optional package that is considered the "off-road performance" option. From a high level, the TRD package gives you: - Different shocks/suspension with progressive coils in the front - Graphics on the rear end - eletronic locking rear differential (the biggie in the package) - alloy wheels - larger tires Out of that package, the only thing that is really a big item is the locker. The rest are parts that can easily be added to a non-TRD Tacoma with better than factory quality aftermarket parts. (Most people end up replacing the TRD suspension anyways) There is a lengthy post at Tacoma Territory about this topic that will cover a lot more than I can type here... Check it out: http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum...ed+trd+package Hope that helps. Pete |
