lifters are tapping...........

Maybe someone can help me out with the problems w/my car. First, of all when i turn on my car my it makes a tapping noise inside the head. They tried to adjust them, but I was told that 4 of my valves are messed up. True or not True. And then i was told by someone else that my car which is the 94 honda accord vtech doesn't have lifters. I need someone to respond back to me please, letting me know what action to take. In other words a way that won't be that expensive.

Thank You

Re: lifters are tapping...........

Not sure where to start.
1. The Accord doesn't have lifters - it's an OHC motor.
2. It DOES have rockers.
3. They CAN be adjusted (which might reduce the noise).
4. Adjustment is not simple (I gather)
5. "4 of my valves are messed up" is a non-technical explanation, and doesn't tell us much. Maybe they meant that 4 of the adjusters are worn.
6. Many Accords have rather noisy valves (mine included) but seem to be quite happy that way.
7. Does the noise go away when it warms up? If so, forget it.
8. How old is the car? How many miles?

That's pretty common with 4 cyl. Honda engines. But they can be adjusted. It normally happens during start up while the oil is still in the oil pan instead of the engine. You can use some STP oil treatment which helps during that start up period. It keeps the Internals lubed during that time.
