logical next car after escort wagon?

apologies for three posts in three minutes. its been a while since ive had consistent internet access and im unloading questions..

i love my escort wagon dearly, but she's rusting through in important places. or so im told.

given that ill need a new (used) car sometime between the next few months and the next couple years, i wonder if there was an obvious logical next car for me so i could start looking for good deals.

i like my car because of its price, high mpg, reliability, room for two passengers and a lot of crap, and cheap parts, roughly in that order. is the focus wagon the obvious successor? a kia wagon? a civic hatchback? another escort with less miles on it, or less rust?

i could probably afford to pay around 4,000.

all advice greatly appreciated,
anthony

well the ford focus is what replaced the escort. but civics are imports, imports rust out before they die. but if you love you escort, yeah find another used cheap one with less miles and get it.

You can get a ford escort 2000 or newer with 60k miles for 4 k and it will last you at least 5 years.

go for the probe, it has more peformance and it has more room than a scort. Plus there more parts for it an you can get it as cheap

not familiar with the probe. ive only been looking at roomy hatchbacks and wagons. is there a probe with that kind of space?
