Aurora Indy Motor

I remember the Indy cars were running the Aurora motor for a few years and I think they were geting something like 700 - 800 hp out of these motors. Does anyone know what was being done to these motors to get this?
I saw an intake manifold for the 4.0 motor on Ebay about a year ago that looked like it had 8 weber two barrels on it, or atleast it had 8 velocity stacks; probably with thier own fuel injectors. said it was very rare, I think it went for around $800 or so. This was a very neat looking piece of hardware.
Has anyone else seen this or know how to find them? I would think there would be alot of these Indy motors laying around that a guy could get some parts from and maybe a good tranny. I suppose the tranny is set up for rearwheel drive though. Let me know what you think.
Also, has anyone found the source of the front end snapping noise when making slow turns?

I may be wrong. But just like in nascar , the race engines usually dont have a lot in common with the stock engines.The 4.0 is not a very forgiving motor in stock form, I cant imagine 700-800 hp out of the stock design.For example, The Taurus and Intrepid are front drive cars but nascar versions are rear drive. The Taurus came with a v8 built by Yamaha , but the nascar version is a usa v8 not available in the stock version.

actually I know alot about the indy motor, it turns out that the indy block is the same block as the stock aurora. I have the book on how to build the indy motor and what companies supply the parts for the motor, such as the individual throttle bodies made by katech (they specialize in racing throttle bodies) and the cams made by Hutton motor engineering they specialize in all types of racing stuff, and well you get the picture. GM actually still sells alot of the parts for the motor such as the bottom piece of the block where the external oil pump would be and the water pump, also the valve covers that say Indy racing league which Im still trying to track down.At one point i found a indy aurora for sale only 35k without motor though but it wouldn't be much more with the motor, Im sure you could still find one. I did alot of research trying to find an Indy aurora for sale, only if I had 35k i would have bought it without question.

if you wanted a rearwheel drive tranny then you can get one off the new caddies cause they have rwd in their new lineup you could use the drive train of the caddy if you wanted to make rwd aurora.

In my humble mechanical opinion , Ive seen the stock block and I dont believe it can handle 800 hp without major modifications. 800 hp would blow the heads off of the block.But like I said, I may be wrong.

I found that the indy motor was 650 hp. half of that would be great. I just look at a 5000 lb car with 250 hp as being a little under powered. I don't think you need the full blown indy motor but I would think a guy could get more then 250 out of the stock version, and i don't want to spend a fortune on it either but another 100 hp would be more appropriate for this car. Does anyone know what is holding the power back, computer, intake, exhaust, cams, all of the above, ect? i like the car but i might have to get a Mark 8, you can do allot to that motor for pretty resonable cost. The darn oil leak problem has really got me down, I would think someone would have come up with a quik fix even if it was temperary. i am going to through a handful of sand up there and hope it gets all guewed up and atlest slows it down, my garage looks like the Valdez crashed in it. I will go now, just alittle frustrated with it right now, I will love it again in the morning :-)

well if your looking to get hp I was looking into some places for headers and I found a place that deals with only northstars but they dont make headers for the aurora but he said that if you get headers then you'll open alot of power to the northstar.
